Interesting places to visit at the weekend in Katowice

Katowice, situated in the very centre of the Silesian Voivodship, is a place that combines many extremes. It is almost changing before our eyes and is transforming from an industrial molehill into an international cultural centre.

Do you remember "Mr Kleks" by Jan Brzechwa? In Katowice you can move into his world. Here you will find a brilliant family attraction. "Mr. Kleks' Fairy Tale".

One of the most famous landmarks of the Silesian capital is Three Ponds Valley. It is a complex of green areas, ponds, a swimming pool and cycle paths on an area of around 65 ha. Many events take place here, such as the Off Festival music festival, organised among others by Artur Rojek.

Industrial Katowice in a new guise

Former workers' housing estate Nikiszowiec

In this modern city (its real development began in the 19th century), you will encounter fantastic architectural monuments - not only related to industry, but also green parks and places where culture thrives.

A favourite of many Polish and foreign tourists is the Nikiszowiec estate. Once a centre of housing for those working in industry, it is now a place popular with young people - full of restaurants, cafés art galleries and other points of interest.

Many of the places where the industry developed have been restored, thus changing their use. Some of them have been cleverly adapted for residential, cultural, office or commercial purposes. In order to feel the spirit of former Katowice, you can go for example to the Wilson Shaft Art Gallery - gallery located on the site of a former mine shaft, on the Mirowska Hall - once used as a shoe factory or see the KTW Tower which used to be the Katowice steelworks and is now a modern office and retail complex.

The capital of the Silesian Voivodeship for tourists

Katowice is well prepared when tourists visit. In many restaurants you can enjoy traditional Silesian dishes, you can easily make an appointment with a tourist guide who will tell you about the history of Silesia in an unusual way and, regardless of the season, you will find accommodation and you can get around the city thanks to the well-connected public transport network.
